Rye Y Centennial Basketball Team versus the Harlem Ambassadors

Sunday, March 30, 5:30 p.m. at the MHS gym.

The internationally acclaimed Harlem Ambassadors take on the Rye Y team, consisting of local coaches and teachers, in a fun-filled, family-friendly evening of basketball showmanship featuring high-flying slam dunks, ball-handling tricks and hilarious comedy routines. Irish tea and tales

Enjoy Irish stories, music and refreshments at the Rye Free Reading Room on Sunday, March 23, at 2 p.m. when Marianne McShane returns to the library to share more enchanting tales from the Emerald Isle and Jo-Ellen Bosson sings traditional Irish songs and plays the fiddle. A native of County Down and a featured storyteller on both sides of the ocean, McShane is the 2013 Mid-Atlantic Fleadh Cheoil storytelling champion. Bosson has been performing Irish music for many years and is delighted to join in this annual event at the library. Together they will truly transport the audience to the Old Sod for the afternoon.

Holistic Moms present talks

Dr. Eva Vanamee, adjunct assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai Hospital, will give a speech titled: “What You Should Know about the Gardasil Vaccine” on Wednesday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Vanamee, who holds a PhD in Biophysics and an MS in Chemistry, will talk about her research regarding the Gardasil vaccine.

The second talk will be on Wednesday, April 23.

Mock college entrance exams

Take practice ACT and SAT exams at the Rye Free Reading Room before walking into the real thing. A practice SAT test will be given on Saturday, March 22, and a practice ACT test will be given on Saturday, March 29. Both tests will run from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free detailed score reports highlighting personal strengths and weaknesses will be available at applerouth.com a week after the exam. Test takers should bring water, a snack, pencils and a calculator. Register at applerouth.com/signup to take the tests. Call 914-371-8000 for help or questions.

Wainwright House events

Wainwright joins with Mannes College for salon music series

The final program of the salon series, will be held on March 29. The evening program will begin at 8 p.m. followed by a reception with the artists. Tickets are $30 per salon.

The evening will present pre-concert remarks, deepening the audience understanding and appreciation of the works performed.

The salon series will be concluded with a grand finale evening on April 26, 2014.

Spring classes in art, music, media and literary arts and STEAM begin the weeks of March 19 through April 7 and run through June. Summer classes begin June 30 and are offered in morning or afternoon by the week, the summer or on an individual schedule.

Help bring 3D printing and design to Rye

The Rye Arts Center has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to support its innovative STEM+Arts program.

Money raised will be used to purchase a 3D MakerBot printer, materials, curriculum and training.

Goal: $4,000
