Frank Vicenti, president of the Wild Dog Foundation will give a presentation on the coyote’s behaviour, habitats, ecology and preservation. There is no fee to attend.

Mystery program: Cracks in the wall

On Wednesday, May 21, from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., there will be a mystery in the
library and the library needs your help to get to the bottom of it. Please plan to be at the library no later than 5:45 p.m. and meet in the
reference room.

For children in grades five through eight,
registration required.

Poetry workshop

Thursday, May 22 through June 26, from
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. In this hands-on workshop, we will use the work of celebrated New York poets to jump start our own creativity. Beginners and experienced poets will find much to explore.

Registration required. Please note that when you register, you will be making a commitment to all six sessions.

Richard Kemper essay contest

On Wednesday, May 21, at 3 p.m., the Richard Kemper Essay Contest ceremony will begin in the multi-tiered classroom off the lobby of the main entrance to Mamaroneck High School and will then move outside to Richard M. Kemper Park, a World War II Memorial.

In honor of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, students wrote essays on D-Day’s impact on today’s world. The winning essays will be read at the ceremony. Awards will be $500 for first prize, $250 for second and $100 for the winning poster, which advertised the contest. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Five-hour prelicensing class

Formula One Driving School, located at 584 Mamaroneck Ave., Mamaroneck, has the five-hour prelicensing class scheduled for Sunday, May 18, at 10 a.m.; Saturday, May 24, at 10 a.m.; Wednesday, May 28, at 4 p.m.; Saturday, May 31, at 10 a.m.; Sunday, June 8, at 10 a.m.; Wednesday, June 11, at 4 p.m.; Saturday, June 14, at 10 a.m.; Wednesday, June 18, at 4 p.m.; Saturday, June 21, at 10 a.m.; Wednesday, June 25, at 4 p.m.; Saturday, June 28, at 10 a.m.

This class is required by New York State for new drivers before they can take their road test.

Westchester Chorale concert

The Westchester Chorale presents two exquisite celebrations of life in their spring concert. Led by musical director Douglas Kostner, the Westchester Chorale is an auditioned avocational chorus of 50 men and women dedicated to the performance of great choral-orchestral music.

They will be accompanied at the May 18 concert by Christopher Creagan, associate organist for the Riverside Church in New York City performing on Larchmont Avenue Church’s 3,000-pipe organ.

Date: Sunday, May 18, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Location: Larchmont Avenue Church, 60 Forest Park Ave., wheelchair accessible.

Neighborhood tree walk

Please join us for a family-oriented neighborhood walk, sponsored by the Village of Mamaroneck Tree Committee.

When: Saturday, May 17, at 1 p.m., rain date May 31.

Where: Meet at Tompkins Avenue Bridge—Phillips Park Road and E. Prospect Avenue, near House of Honda and ASAP—for a walk along Melbourne Avenue.

Naturalist Jenny Geer, from the Sheldrake Environmental Center, will lead the walk.

Geer will demonstrate how to identify trees from their bark, flowers and leaves, explain the ecological relationship of trees to other life forms, explore what is happening now in the tree life cycle and discuss the value of neighborhood trees to the community and environment.

No registration or fee is required. All adults and children are welcome.
