Bronxville Women’s Club events
The public is cordially invited to the opening art reception for Ying Chen on Sunday, June 8, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bronxville Women’s Club, 135 Midland Ave. The exhibit will run through July 31 and viewing is Monday through Friday, excluding holiday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The works are for sale. Performing background music on the piano during the reception will be Ying’s husband, Weili Chen. Ying is a member of the Bronxville Women’s Club and is the instructor of the children’s art classes offered at The Bronxville Women’s Club every Saturday morning. Ying Chen was born in Shanghai, China in 1981, and began painting at age four. Ying came to the United States in 2005 for graduate study at Carnegie Mellon University. She now lives in Rye Brook, N.Y. Her first solo show took place at Fudan University Art Museum in January 2004. She also had solo exhibitions at The Bronxville Women’s Club, Xuhui Art Museum and China Central Academy of Fine Arts Gallery.
Ying’s works were juried and awarded in several national art exhibits in China, including Shanghai Youth Biennia. Her works were also exhibited at 2010 World Expo Pavilion of Footprint, Tibet Museum, Liu Haisu Art Museum and St. Louis Art Museum. Her paintings are included in the permanent collection of the World Expo Museum, Xuhui Art Museum, Fudan University Art Museum, and Tibet Museum.
Ying has published books, including “Introduction to Oil Pastel Painting,” “Techniques of Oil Pastel Painting” and “Collection of Young Artists’ Works–Ying Chen.”
Young artists’ reception
Everyone is invited to the opening reception for the young students of BWC member Ying Chen’s Bronxville Women’s Club art class on Sunday, June 29, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Bronxville Women’s Club is located at 135 Midland Ave.
The classes are given free of charge and are open to children in the local area. The young artists have been meeting every Saturday morning for drawing and painting classes since October. Performing background music on the piano during the reception will be Ying’s husband, Weili Chen. The exhibit will be open for viewing through July 31, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sales of the works will go for supplies for next year. Emelin Theater event

On June 27, 2014, The Emelin Theater will present The Michael Jackson Experience starring Delisco James. This unique tribute to Michael Jackson is one inspired fan’s way of giving back to the legacy of his idol as well as introducing The King of Pop’s music to a new generation.
With his incredibly talented band, backup singers and dancers, Delisco James recreates some of Michael Jackson’s most electrifying moments including the days with his brothers in The Jackson Five and his groundbreaking performance of “Billie Jean” on Motown’s 25th Anniversary Special.
The show’s finale, a recreation of the epic video “Thriller” will remind you why Michael will forever be “The King of Pop.”
A lifelong performer, Delisco has starred in three Broadway musicals as well as a national tour playing the role of Judas in “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Headlining the music of Michael Jackson around the globe, he’s played to sold out audiences in Macau, Berlin, Malaysia and Singapore. Delisco has returned home to launch his personal tribute to this musical icon.

Building Our Foundation Brick by Brick
Calling all graduates of Eastchester Schools, their families and friends. The Eastchester School Foundation is having a fundraiser called “Building Our Foundation Brick by Brick.”

Chapel School golf outing

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., shotgun start is at 10:30 a.m.

Counseling Center lecture series
Bronxville school psychologist Joyce Vastola will give a lecture titled “Positive parenting: Creating mindfulness, positivity and happiness in the home” on Thursday, June 5, at 1 p.m.
The lecture is $20 per person and includes a light lunch.
This event will be held at the Reformed Church of Bronxville in the Edwards Room.
