Downtown formers market

Saturday, May 31, marked the opening of the New Rochelle’s Downtown Farmers Market. The market will be held every Saturday through Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Library Green next to the New Rochelle Public Library on Huguenot Street between Memorial Highway and Lawton Street.

To make this a great community happening for the entire family, there will be free children’s activities and live music every Saturday.

The Farmer’s Market is sponsored by the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District, Monroe College, Green Mountain Energy and Halstead New Rochelle.

Sunday, June 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the New Rochelle Humane Society will be holding their annual tag sale to raise money for the TNR Program‑Trap, Neuter, Release‑of feral cats in different communities. The tag sale will be at 148 Center Ave, Mamaroneck

Children sign the Declaration of Independence with a quill pen

Saturday, July 5, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Children of all ages are invited to the Thomas Paine Cottage to sign a replica of the Declaration of Independence.

Stop by and see where Thomas Paine lived, tour the cottage and learn a little colonial history for Independence Day weekend.

Visitors are invited to pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the lovely grounds. Pocket copies of Common Sense will be available to purchase.

Cost: $5 adults, $3 children

Call for artists and writers

The Blue Door Art Gallery in Yonkers is currently seeking submissions for its inaugural issue of the Blue Door Quarterly Journal―a new literary and art publication.

The Journal, which will be available in print and online, will feature work from new and established artists working across various mediums:

-Fiction

-Nonfiction

-Poetry

-Photography

-Fine art

Each issue of the publication will have a different theme. For our inaugural issue, the theme is community

Submission deadline: Aug. 10, 2014

Submission guidelines:

-Three submissions per artist.

-Word count limit for fiction/nonfiction work: 2,000

-Previously published work not acceptable.

-All submissions must be original work of artist.

-We accept the following formats: PDF, DOC,DOCX, PNG, JPG.

Corporations tee-up support for people with developmental disabilities

On Tuesday, June 24, Cerebral Palsy of Westchester will host their 13th annual golf classic at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale.

Corporate sponsors and individual players will enjoy a day of golf and have a shot at the hole-in-one and other competitions. After the tournament, participants will take part in the evening’s festivities, which include dinner, silent auction, raffle and a presentation of the tournament winners.

Cerebral Palsy of Westchester would like to thank the sponsors and supporters that contribute to CPW’s efforts in raising money for programs and services that thousands of children and adults with disabilities benefit from each year.

Location: Quaker Ridge Golf Club; 146 Griffen Ave., Scarsdale

Time: Registration at 10 a.m., shot gun start at noon.
