On May 27, Rye Neck escaped a first-round thriller with Dobbs Ferry, as the top-seeded Class B team was able to nip the Eagles after a big hit by senior Matt Franks.

With the score knotted at 1-1 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Franks singled, driving in Thomas Pipolo for the win.

Franks, like the rest of the Panther offense struggled up to that point and was hitless in three at-bats coming into the final frame. The fourth time proved a charm though, as he was able to connect on a hitter’s count to put the game away for Rye Neck.

“It feels amazing, I knew that I was hopefully due,” Franks said after the game. “I knew that, 2-0, I was going to get a good fastball and I just put a swing on it.”

With the win, the Panthers advance to the Class B quarterfinals. They host seventh-seeded Croton-Harmon on May 28, after press time.
