On Nov. 1, the Rye Garnets punched their ticket to the Class A finals with a convincing 28-7 win over Tappan Zee, marking the first time Rye has made an appearance in a Section I final since 2008.
Rye (9-0) started strong as Alex Raynor intercepted a Tap-pan Ze-e quarterback Giuse-ppe Maddalena pass on the first drive and returned it for a touchdown. On the very next drive, Raynor forced another turnover that led to Rye’s second score of the day, a 10-yard pass from Alex Livingston to Chase Pratt.
Livingston would finish the day with 14 completions for 235 yards and three scores. Tim DeGraw, who was emerged as Rye’s top receiving threat, hauled in six of those passes for 163 yards on the afternoon. On the ground, Shane O’Malley led the Garnets with 93 yards.
Rye will meet a surging Somers team in the Class A finals on Nov. 9 at Mahopac High School. Somers upended Ossining in the semis, drubbing the Pride 52-14 thanks to an impressive performance on the ground, which saw the Tuskers gain 467 rushing yards. Fullback Tim Fazzinga led with 205 yards. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
