Mamaroneck Historical Society wants to save the 1792 DeLancey House
The DeLancey House, where James Fenimore Cooper was married and did some of his writing, is up for sale. What most don’t know is the owners are now planning to take bids for the next six months, and then accept the top bid. It will most likely be purchased by a developer‑since it’s right across from beautiful Mamaroneck Harbor‑who will take it down.

This cannot happen. We all must see to it that it doesn’t happen.

Although some of you are on our committee, many are residents in Mamaroneck and Larchmont or in Cooperstown, which was founded by Cooper’s father. The historical society wants to be sure all who are interested can not only read our information letter‑and consider contributing‑but share it with others.

Do go to our website, where you can see we now have the opportunity to contribute by Paypal, by credit card or by check.

Thanks for your interest in preservation and history. Our historical society and its Fundraising Committee are immensely grateful for your interest and support.

Deadline for our Community Briefs section is 12 p.m. every Friday. Though space is not guaranteed, we will do our best to accommodate your listings. Please send all items to news@hometwn.com.
