Summer volunteers needed for food pantry shifts
The Larchmont-Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force needs volunteers for its Food Pantry this summer. Especially urgent is the need for volunteers to pack grocery bags on Tuesdays from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. and for strong individuals to carry grocery bags for clients on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The Food Pantry will be distributing groceries on Aug. 13 to 14 and Aug. 27 to 28. Volunteers are also needed on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. to help unload groceries from delivery trucks and from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to assist with distributing groceries to clients.

If you are interested, please email Joan Capaldi at volunteer@LMFoodpantry.org.

Stroke awareness saves lives
At Home on the Sound, a service organization for individuals 60 and over, will present valuable information on both recognizing stroke symptoms and preventing them on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 7. Two specialists in stroke rehabilitation from Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, Roseann Cardi, nurse manager, and Lisa Edelstein, program director, will describe the signs of a stroke and suggest ways that can reduce their incidence by managing risk factors. Even though stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in adults‑every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has one‑many are totally unprepared. The speakers see the devastating effects of strokes on people and their loved ones every day. This program can raise awareness about what a stroke is and how to get help. Prevention and education can save lives.
Program is free at Sts. John and Paul Church, rectory meeting room. Refreshments at 3:30 p.m., program at 4 p.m.
