Column: Idoni on the cutting edge

To the Editor,

Westchester County Clerk Tim Idoni has done a fantastic job of reducing costs at the County Clerk’s office. He is one of the outstanding government managers in the state.  All Westchester voters should examine his record and vote to re-elect him.

Idoni has reduced the operating budget of the County Clerk’s Office by 18 percent. This is a major and unusual accomplishment. Previously, the office relied on temporary workers to handle spikes in workload. In addition, overtime for hourly employees was out of control. Idoni instituted an oversight system to better manage the workload. Staff were trained to perform multiple jobs. Idoni has cut overall staffing by 29 percent, without layoffs, since taking office. He eliminated the office of Chief Deputy County Clerk. That step alone saved taxpayers an annual salary of $100,000. These efficiencies have allowed the County Clerk’s Office to enjoy a surplus of revenues over expenses.
