After placing first in all four of his events in a swim meet win against Westlake High School at Pace University, Pat Macaulay of the Rye High School Boys Swimming and Diving Team has been named this week’s Athlete of the Week.
So far on the year, the Garnets have also defeated Harrison and Keio. Pat, a junior, specializes in freestyle races, but will swim any of the strokes that his team needs.
“Pat was a big part of the 106-79 win against Westlake” coach Lara Vivola said. “His first-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.29 earned him a sectional cut time, and his first-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:52.50 earned him a sectional as well as a state cut time. Pat was also a member of the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays that both took first place at the meet.”
Pat has won the 500-yard freestyle in three out of the four meets so far this season, and has now qualified to compete in the state championships. In all but one of his meets, he has also placed first in both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle.
“Pat is a great friend to everyone in and out of the water,” teammate Thomas Mackey said. “His full commitment to two swim teams, school and friends makes his success in school and in the pool outstanding and a role model to all, especially me.”
When not competing for the Garnets, Pat swims for Empire Swimming, a sclub that is a member of USA Swimming. He hopes to continue to swim in college.
Pat is an honor roll student and is a very active volunteer, including participating in the Meals-on-Wheels program.
