Rye senior diver Norah Murphy has certainly made a splash this year, winning Athlete of the Week honors. Murphy is undefeated this season and placed first against the combined team of Briarcliff-Pleasantville-Westlake-Valhalla as well as against Byram Hills using her top dives—the front double pike and the back one-and-a-half pike.
Murphy is a year-round diver and generally practices five or six days a week. Outside of the fall swim season, she practices at SUNY Purchase for her club team, High Dive Champions. During the summer, Norah competes for both the Coveleigh Club and High Dive championships. This past summer, she won both the Westchester County and Westchester Conference championships for diving.
In addition to being a superior diver, Murphy is also an outstanding student. She is a member of the National Honor Society, a Scholar Athlete Award winner, and a Rye High School Scholar. She is also an active volunteer, working for the Church of the Resurrection, Adopt a U.S. soldier and Habitat for Humanity.
“Coming into her senior year season, we knew it would be a successful one,” Rye High School’s Diving Coach Melanie Dilascio said. “Thus far, Norah has surpassed that expectation; winning both away meets and remaining undefeated. We are looking forward to see how she will do at our two upcoming home meets and the Divisional and Sectional championships later on this month.”
