Powerful long drives, consistent chipping and clutch putts have helped golfer Jack Maresca not only set personal records this season, but also have greatly contributed to winning matches for his team.
Against a highly competitive Fox Lane team, Jack, a junior, shot a two-under-par 34 at Rye Golf Club, the Garnets home course. Not only was the score a personal best for Jack, topping the 35 he shot against Harrison, it beat the next closest competitor by seven strokes.
The Garnets finished with a final regular season record of 11-6 against some of the toughest competition around.
“Jack is a great player,” teammate Dillon Leahy said. “[He] always helps give our team a chance in matches.”
Coach Pat Romano feels Jack has been one of the keys to the Garnets’ success, not only through his play and low scores but also as being a role model to the younger players on his team.
“Jack is a talented golfer, a hard worker and a true leader,” Romano said. “He has a true passion for the game.”
Jack not only dedicates himself on the golf course but is on the squash team as well. He has many years of golf ahead of him, including one more for the Garnets. He is looking to compete in golf while at college, possibly in the south.
