With her long drives and skillful putts, this week’s Athlete of the Week is Frida Henningsson.

In the Garnets victory against Suffern, Frida shot a 40 (+3) to lead all golfers while she had the second-best overall score in a victory over Scarsdale. The Garnet team is now 7-1 and it is undefeated against other public schools.

Frida has been a positive influence on the other golfers on the team, especially the underclassmen. Teammate Haley Ackert said, “Frida always shows up to practice and matches with enthusiasm and determination to play the best that she can possibly play and improve everyday while having fun.”

Frida, a junior, is one of Rye’s top golfers and is looking forward to competing at the state championships. As a sophomore, she placed 31st in the state.

Coach Rich Savage is very impressed with his rising talent.

“Frida is a consistent athlete who always maintains composure on the golf course,” Savage said. “No matter how difficult the shot or hole she is playing, Frida will always make the smart decision that will result in the best score.”

Originally from Sweden, Frida started playing golf at the age of six, inspired by her older sister as well as former Swedish professional golfer Annika Sörenstam.

In addition to her athletic prowess, Frida also shines in the classroom as a member of the high honor roll every year.

Frida plans to play golf collegiately after she graduates from Rye in 2015.
