After a winning record during the regular season followed by a strong showing in the Conference Championship Tournament that qualified her for a berth in the the Section 1 Tennis Championships, Alanna Morque has been named this week’s Athlete-of-the-Week.

Morque, a senior and co-captain, has greatly contributed to her team’s success. Competing in a league with tough teams such as Byram Hills, Harrison, and Horace Greeley, Morque has filled a crucial role for the Garnets. Because of her accomplishments, Alanna will be named as an All-League player for this season.

“Alanna has been a model example of a leader as Captain of Rye Girls Tennis this season,” head coach Tony Campbell said. “She set a tone of fair play, competitiveness, and hard work, playing in the second singles spot all season, battling against more accomplished opponents, and pulling out close matches.”

Fellow teammate and co-captain Farah Keuleers reflects on Alanna as a person who never fails to cheer up the team.

“Whether or not the team is winning, she’s always on the sidelines cheering everyone on,” Keuleers said. “She and I joined the team together the same year and it’s amazing to see how much she has improved. Also, as my co-captain, she is always ready to help organize team events and make sure everyone is happy. Somehow, she can make warm-ups fun and exciting.”

When the tennis season ends, Alanna will be a captain on the basketball team and an integral player on that team also.
